to market, to market

Flea markets are not for everyone. Chances are if you don't like rummaging through the racks at T.J. Maxx, you're not going to like bin diving at Goodwill. For me, nothing is more exciting than digging up buried treasure.

That's exactly what you call vintage accessories like this broach (above) or pieces of antique lace that could be used to create a one-of-a-kind veil. Items don't have to have the word "wedding" attached to make it into your special occasion medley. For example, mix in some colorful mis-matched china to the standard issue bone white kind your venue supplies and suddenly, cocktail hour gets a little more interesting. Or simply gather inspiration by spending a Saturday afternoon sauntering second hand stores for inspiration.

Flea market finds don't have to be buffed of their flaws in order to sparkle. After all, it's the flaws that make us perfect. All Photography by Aimée Herring for Country Living.

I must confess that flea-markets and antique shops are my weakness as well... my cubbard is comprised of orphaned dishes and mis-matched embroidered hankies...

If you love antiques and vintage collectibles you need to check out the Madison-Bouckville, N.Y. outdoor antiques show held every summer in mid-August. I've gone for 10 years and it's the best!
